THE BACKGROUND

The framework is here.
Implementation comes in stages.

A Digital Product Passport connects a product to structured information about it. The applicable information, access rights and start dates depend on the product category and the relevant EU legislation.

The EU framework takes effect

The Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) establishes a framework for product requirements, including Digital Product Passports. Detailed obligations are set through product-specific rules.

Different products, different timelines

There is no single DPP start date for every product. Other categories follow the requirements and application dates in their respective product-specific legislation.

PREPARE WITH PURPOSE

Good preparation starts
with the information you have.

Preparation for Digital Product Passports starts with three connected areas.

PRODUCT SCOPE

Understand the product

Identify the product category, models and relevant supply-chain roles before deciding which requirements may apply.

DATA & DOCUMENTS

Organise the evidence

Bring product specifications, supporting documents and their sources into a clearer, more consistent structure.

ACCESS & TRACEABILITY

Prepare to share

Consider what information needs to stay private, what may be shared and how changes should remain traceable.
